FEMINISM.
FEMINISM is the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of equality between the sexes on spectrum's of political, social, and economic equality.
feminism is a movement that advocates for gender equality, the aim of feminism is for fair of treatment across the board. What differentiates feminism from other social movements is the focus on gender and how it relates to the oppression of women, as well as people and non-binary gender identities and expressions.
In recent years feminism has been making waves in mass media, as women and men both advantaged and disadvantaged have taken it upon themselves to advocate for women's rights.
Feminism aims to breach the gap between women and men eliminating gender stereotypes and allowing both gender's to thrive.
Tradition and Feminism.
For years women have been groomed and conditioned on how to be good wives, how to take care of their children and most importantly husband. Women have been placed in a box of comfort that came with terms and conditions as long as they stay in their box they could live a comfortable life. God forbid they find their voice or stand up for themselves. Tradition has shaped how women should be perceived by the world, men being leaders and women followers that's the way it has always been. It is in the name of tradition that men pay lobola for their wives a African act of paying money or livestock before marriage. This is practically buying the companionship of your wife. Making men believe they own their wives thus leading to domestic abuse. Women are expected to aspire to marriage find a good husband and that's how their life is supposed to play out with no ambitions and aspirations for themselves. For once women want a seat at the table they so deserve, A seat at the table where major decisions that affect them are made. Feminism has been and is challenging gender stereotypes giving women from all backgrounds and races a voice giving them the tools to break the chains that have binded them to what the world thinks as normal.
Feminism and Men.
There have been arguments that feminism is hate against men, which is not the case feminism is not a power struggle, It was not set up to suppress one gender over another but rather to give opportunities to a gender that has been deprived of them. Having open minded men that believe in the equality of both sexes in the feminism movement is crucial to the movement's success in the long run. Men play a vital role in pushing the agenda of feminism forward as they are in possession of the resources to do so.
Although some female feminists might disagree that having men in feminism is degrading to the movement, Nothing can be done without the support of men. Feminism is an inclusive movement where anyone that believes in the equality of the sexes can be of great use. members of LGBTQ, disadvantaged groups etc.
Powerful feminist women.
When it comes to the advocacy of all things relating to equality between all races and sexes OPRAH WINFREY is no stranger. Being one of the very few black people to have achieved great success through media for her time. Oprah has shaped the abundance of black entertainment we enjoy today.
She has since developed the Oprah Winfrey leadership academy for girls in South Africa which is a boarding school that provides leadership and opportunities for academically gifted girls.
Alice Walker a critical voice for black women in the feminist movement, Alice was involved in the civil rights movement alongside Dr. Martin Luther King. Her most famous work, The color purple became vital in telling the story of black women and was later adapted into both a movie and later a broadway musical.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie needs no introduction as she is a veteran for all things feminism well known for her ''We should all be feminist'' ted talk. Not forgetting her cameo in beyonce's flawless song. Adichie has become a vital author in the modern day feminists movement. With works like Americah, we should all be feminists, dear ijeawele just to name a few, She has been advocating for women's rights and representing African culture on a global scale.
Feminism is not a power struggle but providing equal opportunities for both males and females. Understanding that women have always gotten the Short end of the stick, as far as resources, equal pay, job opportunities etc. Great strides have been made in bridging the gap between men and women, however there is still a long way to go, before true equality can be reached.
